During the past month or so, Greenway Mortgage in Spring Lake has been fortunate enough to welcome several new loan officers to the team. Both expressed excitement – and a sense of relief – as they prepared to help area residents fulfill the dream of home ownership.
They’re not only excited to be joining a first-class operation, but they’re relieved because they were so unhappy with previous employers. They were frustrated by the slow pace of business. They were frustrated that so much of their time was spent on tasks that had nothing to do with what they do best – matching home buyers and refinancers with the best mortgage program.
Many of these frustrations stem from the fact that the mortgage industry isn’t the same as it was a few years ago. We have to deal with more regulations and red tape, both of which can slow down the mortgage process. When these changes came down, mortgage companies had a choice. They could either be a victim, or they could be an overcomer.
Greenway Mortgage chose to be an overcomer.
This is why loan officers quickly find out that the grass on our side of the fence is as green as the company name. Our branch empowers loan officers to focus on the job they were hired to do. They meet with prospective borrowers, match qualified borrowers with the right mortgage program, submit an application, collect documentation, and drop off these materials at our office.
At that point, we have the support staff to take the ball and run with it. The loan officer doesn’t have to get involved. Regulatory changes haven’t had any measurable effect on the duration of the mortgage process for our customers. We’ve simply adapted our processes to succeed within the new framework of rules.
We’ve also adapted our marketing strategies to meet both industry guidelines and the needs of our current and prospective customers.
We’ve invested heavily in a customer relationship management (CRM) tool that enables us to track all interactions and store customer data so all of our loan officers are dealing with accurate, complete and updated information. We’ve invested heavily in our online presence and the development of content that educates and earns the trust of prospective borrowers, and helps them find us on search engines.
The point is, we set up our loan officers to succeed. We prioritize lead generation and relationship building. We provide a level of support that frees loan officers from monotonous administrative tasks so they can focus on servicing customers. We never use changes across the mortgage industry as an excuse, because our customers couldn’t care less. And it’s our customers whose perceptions and satisfaction matter most.
If you’re a mortgage loan officer looking for a new opportunity with a company that’s willing to invest in your success, let’s talk.
